That is the philosophy behind my Web site, which lists over 51,000 names from my indexes to original Archives sources. I want people to be able to do the research themselves if they can get there.Judy Websterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02331380147873608965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6876403528262108896.post-70376268956935407112010-09-02T22:30:04.482-05:002010-09-02T22:30:04.482-05:00Karen

What about turning the scans over to a genealogical society that would want to turn them into a revenue stream and charge for the lookups? Or perhaps GenWeb was not the best vehicle to advertise their availability?Thomas MacEnteehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09925130637060406529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6876403528262108896.post-83434886313094285142010-09-02T18:38:16.989-05:002010-09-02T18:38:16.989-05:00My gosh, I guess I'm the only one! lol And ...My gosh, I guess I'm the only one! lol And priced at a buck, I'd probably have bought several copies just because it was such a deal! :)Karenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10711776825293238093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6876403528262108896.post-56538880591552384842010-09-02T15:17:21.381-05:002010-09-02T15:17:21.381-05:00Karen, I find your statement, "I’d be willing...Karen, I find your statement, "I’d be willing to pay for a scan of an ancestral photo as well, or a newspaper article." to be VERYYYY interesting.

I scanned a LOT of photos and/or line drawings from old county histories, people, their homes, and more. I had them listed online at the county GENWEB site for years. I may have been asking for a $1.00 donation, usually I just turn that $$ over to the local genie or historical society.

I had NO takers in well over 8 years they were listed on that site. NOT ONE, not even one inquiry.

I finally took them down.

I have done a lot of obits for others tho, but, no one seemed to be interest in a likeness of their ancestors. Isn't that just amazing??Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11754623831815018924noreply@blogger.com
